Hello,
My name is Caroline Graham, and I am a senior at the University of New Mexico, receiving my BA in Theatre in the spring. I am looking for individuals to interview for my honors thesis, for which I have chosen to focus on RSD/CRPS.
I do not suffer from RSD, but my father has been living with it for fifteen years. I may have interviewed some of you four years ago, when I wrote a research paper on the topic for my high school exit project and my dad helped me contact a few Facebook groups. For my thesis, I am expanding upon my research, looking into new developments, and—with your willing participation—engaging in a deeper conversation with regard to chronic pain, its effects, and its implications.
The research paper is a large part of the process, but my ultimate goal is to create a performance piece to inform the general public about chronic pain conditions. Pain is an extremely personal experience that can be difficult to put into words; I know I cannot understand what this particular pain feels like, and many people never will. That is why I am hoping to utilize lecture aspects, movement pieces, art installations, and above all, your interview responses in order to explain what so many people go through on a daily basis, and what is often so difficult to recognize at a glance.
I am still in the process of formulating questions, and they may alter between interviews; these can be conducted in person, via Skype, or via Facebook message/email; if I gather enough material, I may include a multimedia aspect with segments of recorded interviews. Text-based conversations would be reproduced by a small core of actors that are active in the Albuquerque theatre community and that I trust deeply. Everything recorded or reproduced would only be done so with written consent; if we reach the end of the interview and you decide you don’t want your words to be released, the conversation will remain between us.
I will be engaging in these interviews through January, so there is no rush to get back to me. I am reachable through Facebook and via e-mail. if you have questions or concerns. I am looking forward to developing this project, and I hope to speak with many of you soon.
